How useful can Bixby be ?

Samsung introduced their version of Voice Assistant called Bixby along with the S8 lineup of phones. They had high hopes on this project but instead they received a lot of criticism because of the fact that it was half baked when it was released and also the fact that Google Assistant, which was also present in their phones could do the same thing much better. But not leaving their Samsung continued to improve Bixby’s Experience year by year. As a result of this they introduced Bixby Routines last year.

So what is this? Is this any kind of revolutionary thing that Samsung announced? No, it is not. Apps like IFTTT could do the same as Bixby Routines, but Bixby does it in a better way because of the fact that the app is baked into the phone’s software.

How does it work?

Before getting in, Bixby Routines is only available on the latest flagship phones from Samsung.

You could find the Bixby Routines under the ‘Advance features’ option under your ‘Phone Settings’

It starts by setting a certain ‘Timing’ or ‘Place’ or ‘When Devices are attached’ or ‘Event’ or ‘By Triggering Manually’ certain actions get executed in a predefined algorithm.

To make it clear, let's say that when a particular Bluetooth Device is connected is set as a trigger point and when it senses the trigger you want the music to be played automatically, that can be done. Sounds cool right!!!

How can it be useful?

Let’s figure out a scenario where you are late for your college and you step into the classroom 10 mins late and by chance the professor leaves you inside the class. But unfortunately you forgot to put your phone on silent and it starts ringing and the professor gets annoyed at you and sends you out of the class. What if that could be avoided if you could automate things. Yes, you could. In the Routines settings, just give it a stipulated time period and in that time period that your phone must be put to Silent Mode. Just as simple as that.

My coolest implementation is that Auto Rotate only turns on when only when the selected apps are opened, otherwise the phone stays in Portrait Mode only.

I have been using the Bixby Routines on my S10+ for quite some time. So, I thought that this feature is useful and sharing this could also enhance your software experience on your Samsung Flagship.
